University of the Philippine kept its undefeated streak after blasting University of the East, 3-0, in the UAAP Season 80 men’s football tournament Thursday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Fighting Maroons (7-0-2) remained atop the table with 23 points and are one win away from securing a Final Four spot, but head coach Anto Gonzales isn’t looking that far ahead.
“We don’t really think about it,” said Gonzales. “We are looking at our performances, we are thinking of improvement. We are not thinking at the Final Four or the championship.”
Ian Clariño, King Miyagi, and JB Borlongan netted the goals for the Fighting Maroons.
In the first game, Ateneo’s Jarvey Gayoso single-handedly dealt a 4-0 punishment to winless Adamson University.
The Blue Booters are now one point away from UP’s total.
Gayoso, the league’s reigning MVP, netted all four goals in the first half and matched his 12-goal total from Season 79 with four games remaining.
In the final game of the day, an own goal on Far Eastern University’s side salvaged a point for University of Santo Tomas.
Dionisio Busmion hit his strike off FEU’s Marole Bungay, 90+4, that allowed the Golden Booters to draw 2-2.
UST is at third in the standings with 15 points while the Tamaraws now has nine points.
