A campaign that started off on a positive note ended in heartbreak for the Philippines on Tuesday in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Amman, Jordan.
The Malditas absorbed a 0-5 defeat to South Korea in the battle for Asia’s last spot in the 2019 World Cup in France at Amman International Stadium.
On the defensive right from the start, the Malditas held off the Koreans in the first 30 minutes before conceding two goals late in the first half.
The Malditas opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Jordan, raising hopes of the country finally reaching the World Cup. But successive losses to China and Thailand relegated the Filipinos to the battle with the Koreans, who will join China, Thailand, Japan and Australia as Asia’s representatives. —CEDELF P. TUPAS
