With Blackwater having very little success in its first four years in the PBA, management has reportedly decided to tap Bong Ramos to take over from Leo Isaac and quickly turn the Elite’s fortunes around.
Starting out 0-3 in the Commissioner’s Cup despite a fine local lineup and a reliable import in Jarrid Famous, Blackwater decided to let go of Isaac on Sunday night after a humiliating 93-74 loss to Alaska, sources said.
The sources, who declined to be identified, confirmed the sacking of Isaac and said that Ramos would be presiding over the Elite’s practices as soon as possible.
Ramos is no stranger to the Elite, having served as one of Isaac’s assistants from 2015 before moving to Indonesia in the middle of last year to coach Stapac Jakarta in the Indonesian Basketball League.
Ramos will also be handling his fourth team in the PBA after stints with FedEx, Air21 and Barako Bull.
Owner Dioceldo Sy is still in Canada and could not be reached for comment.
Under Isaac, Blackwater made it to the playoffs only twice in 11 conferences.
