MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo hopes to solidify its hold of the No. 2 spot when it collides with a resurgent Far Eastern U squad in the women’s volleyball eliminations of UAAP Season 74 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Despite a better 4-1 record, the Lady Eagles are expected to have their hands full against the in-form Lady Tamaraws in the 3:30 p.m. showdown.
Growing in confidence, the Lady Tamaraws are targeting their fourth win in six outings.
The Lady Tamaraws showed they had more than enough firepower without lead hitter Maica Morada in a 25-23, 25-22, 25-17 walloping of Adamson last week.
Morada was benched as disciplinary action for missing practice.
Far Eastern coach Nes Pamilar has vowed to keep the Lady Eagles guessing for their clash.
“We’ve cooked up something for them (Lady Eagles),” he said.
Pamilar did not say whether or not Morada will be fielded against the Eagles, but the 29-time champs boast of solid attacking options in Wenneth Eulalio, Rosemarie Vargas, Mayjorie Roxas, Gyzelle Sy, rookie Mary Rose Baniel.
The Lady Eagles, second behind unbeaten La Salle, will try to counter with hitters Alyssa Valdez and Fille Cainglet.
“We will try to our best to maintain our standing,” said Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb.
