University of the Philippines stayed hot after taking down University of Perpetual Help, 77-63, Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup Friday at Flying V Centre.
The Fighting Maroons racked up their third straight victory in Group B in a game which pitted Bright Akhuetie against his former school, which dropped to a 0-3 card.
Akhuetie, though, was a silent contributor for UP finishing with just 10 points and grabbing down eight boards as it was Paul Desiderio who carried the scoring burden with 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting from deep.
“As I’ve said before, there are wins that I really don’t like and there are losses that I like, these are some of the wins I don’t like because we didn’t exert too much effort,” said UP head coach Bo Perasol.
“The win was just a result of something we’ve done but as far as objectives are concerned I don’t think we were able to get it but we’re still going to move on after this.”
Gelo Vito was the muscle underneath for the Fighting Maroons with a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double.
Edgar Charcos filled the stat sheet for the Altas with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists, four steals, and one block while Julius Tiburcio missed out on a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
