De La Salle University’s new recruits delivered and the Archers’ defense was unrelenting on Friday in an 83-51 creaming of Emilio Aguinaldo College in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Cup.
It was the fourth straight win for La Salle, which claimed a tie for the early lead with bitter rival Ateneo in Group A.
Also winning big was College of St. Benilde, which demolished Lyceum, 92-68, in an earlier game.
Save for Lyceum scoring the game’s first basket, the Blazers were in the lead all afternoon at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan as Benilde remained one of a handful of unbeaten sides.
Lyceum took a third loss in four matches as the Pirates continued to play without some of their stalwarts that helped them win the PBA D-League championship a few weeks back.
Still, Benilde coach Ty Tang praised his boys for a job well done.
“It isn’t about who we play but how we play. And how we can become consistent,” Tang said as he continued to whip his crew into fine shape for the coming NCAA where he could expect to play a Lyceum side that would be armed to the teeth all the time.
Clement Leutcheu led Benilde with 19 points and 15 rebounds while Yankee Haruna added 14. Carlo Young chipped in 11 points.
Lyceum was led by Jesper Ayaay’s 14 points with Ralph Tansingco adding 12.
