Chabon ties for LPGT lead

Amateur Sofia Chabon fired a two-under-par 70 on Tuesday and tied Thailand’s Chommapat Ponthanarak and Onkanok Soisuwan at the start of the ICTSI Mount Malarayat Ladies Classic at Mt. Malarayat composite course in Lipa City, Batangas. The fancied Cyna Rodriguez bogeyed her last two holes for a 71 and fell into a tie with Tiranan Yoopan and fellow Thai Kanokwan Yospark to trail the joint leaders by a shot going into the second round of the P1.25 million event.

Castro match play No. 1

Luis Miguel Castro and Harmie Constantino carved out contrasting rounds on Tuesday to bag top seeding in their respective divisions in the Philippine Junior Amateur Match Play Golf Championship at Riviera’s Langer course. Castro bogeyed the last two holes for a three-over-par 75, while Constantino fired a 71 with Castro drawing Matthew Abalos at the start Wednesday of the KO stages of the annual event reserved for players 17 years old and below. Constantino, on the other hand, primed herself up for another shot at the match play crown by dominating the girls’ side with a 142, seven strokes ahead of Tomi Arejola, who had a 149 after a 72. Carl Corpus, the reigning men’s champion, signed for a 78 but still second with a 153 for a clash with Rald Sarmiento.
