China showed its might and ousted the Philippines, 9-1, in the quarterfinals of the World Cup of Pool 2018 Saturday at Luwan Arena in Shanghai, China.
The loss ended Carlo Biado and Jeff De Luna’s impressive run in the tournament, reaching the Final 8 after trumping New Zealand’s Matt Edwards and Marco Teutscher, 7-3, and England’s Imran Majid and Mark Gray, 7-0.
Dejing Kong and Ming Wang of China instead will advance to the semifinals on Sunday in the hops of pocketing the $250,000 grand prize.
“Yesterday we practiced really late because we knew we were facing really strong opponents and we had to work out our chemistry. We performed much better today,” said Kong through an interpreter, according to the tournament’s official website.
Biado and De Luna’s exit extended the Philippines’ title drought in the tournament to six years since Dennis Orcollo and Lee Vann Corteza won it all in 2012.
