Filipino Francis Casey Alcantara and American partner Collin Altamirano crushed Japanese top seeds Shintaro Imai and Niki Takuto, 6-1, 6-4, for the men’s doubles championship of the $15,000 ITF Singapore Futures 2 Friday at Kallang Tennis Center.
Alcantara-Altamirano cruised to an easy opening set win before turning back a hard stand from the Japanese in the second.
With a world ranking of 389th in doubles, the 26-year-old Alcantara could leapfrog closer to the 250s which would give him access to elite ATP tournaments.
“We were unstoppable out there and we didn’t give them much of a chance to get into the match,” Alcantara told the Inquirer via Viber.
“I needed this win for my confidence,” added Alcantara, who is coming off a shoulder injury.
