Ceres Negros went on a three-goal flurry in seven minutes as it fought back to subdue Stallion Laguna, 3-2, on Saturday to firm up its hold of top spot in the Philippines Football League (PFL) at Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.
The Busmen leaned on a couple of goals from Bienve Marañon and another from Stephan Schrock to overcome a Stallion side that started strong amid sweltering conditions.
Former FEU star Jhan Jhan Melliza struck twice in the first half as Stallion looked poised to pull off an upset against the reigning champions.
But Schrock got on the scoresheet in the 55th minute with a pinpoint header off Manny Ott’s cross, before Marañon struck from just inside the area two minutes later to pull Ceres level, 2-2.
Marañon knocked in his second goal in the 62nd minute.
