Chan excited to learn from Cone, reunite with Tenorio at Ginebra

Veteran swingman Jeff Chan hopes to give Ginebra a much-needed boost to win its last three games and make the playoffs.

Chan was acquired by the Gin Kings on Monday in a trade with the Phoenix Fuel Masters in exchange for the rights to their first round pick in the 2018 PBA Draft.

“Of course, I’m excited. I just want to help them in any way possible,” Chan told INQUIRER.net. “Hopefully, we’ll have a good run in our last three games.”

There are a lot of reasons why players get excited playing for Ginebra and Chan said his is the opportunity to be under the tutelage of Tim Cone.

“I’m looking forward to playing under coach Tim. He’s one of the greatest coaches here. I just wanna learn from him,” he said.

Chan also said he is also excited to reunite with his former Gilas Pilipinas teammate in LA Tenorio.

The 6-foot-2 Chan also said he’s already talked with Cone and Tenorio and that he will his first practice with Ginebra on Tuesday.

At 34, Chan remains a reliable scorer. He is averaging 11.6 points on 38 percent shooting from the 3-point area for Phoenix this conference while also collecting 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists a night.

He scored 26 points in his last game for the Fuel Masters in a 108-106 loss to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Saturday.

Chan is set to make his Ginebra debut on Wednesday night against Columbian.

The Gin Kings are currently outside the playoff picture with a 3-5 record.
