PSL: Cignal fends off Cherrylume for first win

Cignal averted an upset and overcame Cherrylume, 19-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-22, for its first win in the 2018 Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga Invitational on Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

A quick 3-1 sprint in the fourth set capped by an AC Masangkay drop ball sealed the victory.


“The first set loss was because of the low attitude of my team, however, I reminded them of our game plan and what did we practice,” Cignal head coach Edgar Barroga said in Filipino.

Ahead 9-8 in the third set, HD Spikers unloaded a 6-0 run to pull away for good.


Cignal took advantage of the blocking department with eight while the Iron Lady Warriors only swatted six.

The loss dropped Cherrylume to 0-2.

Mylene Paat led HD Spikers with 20 points while Rachel Ann Daquis added 14.
