Defending champion San Beda secured a spot in the semifinals of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup after surviving Adamson in a 64-62 thriller Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Sean Manganti caught fire midway through the payoff period, scoring Adamson’s last 18 points to bring the game to as close as 62-63 with 3.4 ticks left but Jose Presbitero’s free throw iced the win for the Red Lions.

The Red Lions held a 37-23 lead in the second quarter, but the Soaring Falcons clawed back with an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to six, 34-40.

San Beda made 19 free throws while Adamson only had two.
