Petron relied on the right mixture of sheer athletic ability and pure luck to take down F2 Logistics, 25-16, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24, and earn an outright semifinals berth in the Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference Saturday at Muntinlupa Sports Center.
Both the Blaze Spikers and the Cargo Movers finished the group stages with 3-1 records but Petron moved to the next round due to a better quotient.
Bernadeth Pons had 16 points to lead the charge for Petron while Mika Reyes had 13.
Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos said that with the semifinals bye, they should play harder once the playoffs start.
“They have to play with more heart and act with more eagerness,” said Delos Santos in Filipino. “Because everything’s on a level playing field, the difference is always the heart.”
Cherry Rondina, who played for just two sets, finished with 11 points to add to Petron’s cause while Aiza Maizo-Pontillad had 10.
Ara Galang and Mich Morente had 12 and 10 points, respectively to lead the Cargo Movers.
