PVL: CSB scrapes past San Beda

College of Saint Benilde hacked out a 25-21 15-25, 28-26, 27-25 win over San Beda to open its campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference men’s tournament Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Tied at 25 in the fourth set, Blazers’ Ruvince Abrot flourished in the clutch, scoring back-to-back points to end the game, 27-25.

“San Beda was tough, even in the last two sets but our maturity played a huge role in our win,” St. Benilde head coach Arnold Laniog said in Filipino.

San Beda’s Jomaru Amagan’s attack error capped a two-point swing for the Blazers, 28-26.

The Blazers made up for their 42 errors by burying 49 kills. CSB also pocketed four service aces while San Beda had none.

Abrot led Benilde with 22 points, with 20 coming from attack points while Roniey Adviento chalked up 11 markers.

Amagan led San Beda with 16 points in a losing effort.
