PVL: Tigresses blank Altas for 2-0 start

University of Santo Tomas quickly handled University of Perpetual Help, 25-23, 25-22, 25-16, in the 2018 Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Golden Tigresses took care of business from the get go, but pulled away in the final frame with a 16-11 lead off of Eya Laure’s kill en route to their second victory in as many starts

The Altas’ lone highlight in the final stretch of the third set was when Angielou Castillo’s ace trimmed the UST lead to three, 17-14, but they never threatened after that.

“I told my players that the third set will be a display of who has the better individual skills,” said UST head coach Kung Fu Reyes. “That was the instruction that I really asserted into them.”

Of UST’s last four points, three of came from the Lady Altas’ errors including two straight that sealed the win.

Eya Laure and Milena Alessandrini had 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the Golden Tigresses.

UST’s charismatic marksman Cherry Rondina is not with the team to prepare for the beach volleyball tournament of the UAAP.

Maria Tripoli led the Lady Altas, who dropped to 0-2, with 14 points.
