Fajardo takes home 7th PBA Best Player of Conference award

June Mar Fajardo rewrote the PBA records anew after bagging the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference award, his seventh BPC overall.

Fajardo, San Miguel Beer’s reigning four-time MVP, averaged 19.6 points on 59 percent shooting from the field, 11.4 rebounds and 0.9 blocks a game in the elimination round.

The Cebuano center upped the ante in the semifinals where he normed 20.5 points and 13.5 rebounds as the Beermen needed only four games to dispatch the Alaska Aces and their main man Vic Manuel.

Meanwhile, Justin Brownlee was named Best Import, beating Renaldo Balkman of San Miguel, Reggie Johnson of Rain or Shine and Diamon Simpson of Alaska.

The 28-year-old Fajardo is showing no signs of slowing down. It was just four months ago in the 2018 Philippine Cup where he set the mark for the most number of BPC awards with six.

His mentor and former teammate Danny Ildefonso previously held the record with five.

Fajardo edged Manuel, who once had an 11-game stretch this conference where he scored at least 20 points, for the award. Fajardo garnered a total of 1153 points taken from stats and votes from media, players and the PBA.

Manuel was brilliant but he still finished in far second with 766 total points while GlobalPort’s Stanley Pringle, who highlighted his campaign with a 50-point outing, came in third while his teammate Sean Anthony and Meralco’s Chris Newsome wound up in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
