NCAA: Letran trumps Arellano to stay hot

Letran continued its winning ways after blasting Arellano University, 88-70, in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday night at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Larry Muyang led the way with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and 10 rebounds for the Knights, who dropped their season opener, racked up their fourth victory in a row.

“Good win for us especially we were very tentative at the start. We went back to square one and we became aggressive and we got into the right rhythm,” said Letran coach Jeff Napa.

Letran ended the game on a 10-0 run after Arellano threatened and pulled to within single digits.

“Our character showed that we’re willing to regroup and play as a team,” Napa said.

The Knights had six players in double digits. Jerrick Balanza added 14 points while JP Calvo and Bong Quinto had 13 and 11 points, respectively. Chris Fajarito and Bonbon Batiller also scored 11.

Michael Canete carried the Chiefs with 23 points but was shut down in the fourth quarter with only two points.
