Guiao awaits word on Clarkson’s inclusion in Asian Games roster

With a week left before the Jakarta Asian Games, head coach Yeng Guiao is still putting in his final touches for the basketball team that will play in the continental meet.

And part of that preparation is awaiting word on the participation of NBA guard Jordan Clarkson.

Guiao said he has no problems reserving one of the 12 spots in the roster for the Asian Games for the Cleveland Cavalier.

“For me, it’s okay to reserve a slot for Jordan,” said Guiao in Filipino after the team’s practice Thursday at Meralco Gym.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is still finalizing Clarkson’s inclusion in the lineup and getting clearances from both the NBA and the Cavaliers.

The Olympic Council of Asia also still has to accredit Clarkson for the Games.

“I still don’t know the answer to that [if Clarkson is good to go],” said Guiao who will announce the final 12-man lineup on Friday evening. “I think if there’s a possibility it’s worth the risk of reserving a slot for him.”
