PCCL teams up with PSC to expand reach in provinces

The Philippine Collegiate Champions’ League is looking to expand its network and establish its winner as the undisputed champion in all collegiate basketball associations in the country.

In achieving that goal, the PCCL partnered with the Philippine Sports Commission to expand the National Collegiate Championship.

The NCC is the PCCL’s country-wide tournament that pits the top teams across different leagues against each other with the event culminating in Metro Manila.

PCCL chairman Rey Gamboa said they are looking to include more provincial leagues into the competition and in the process widening their reach and influence further into the regions outside Metro Manila, which already houses the biggest collegiate leagues in the country—UAAP and NCAA.

“We’ll be able to reach more of the provincial teams in the different regions because PSC has a presence in different parts of the country,” said Gamboa.

The PCCL started with just six leagues in its inaugural season but it’s now looking at as many as 35 with its partnership with the PSC.

Apart from the PSC, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas will also aid the PCCL in conducting the NCC.

“Our objective is to continue encouraging teams in the provinces to form their own leagues, there are so many tournaments going on but they’re not formalized and we’ve been helping them organize themselves,” said Gamboa.

“When their mother leagues end, they will have the opportunity to compete with the other leagues in the other provinces.”
