ONE: Against toughest foe yet, Jomary Torres wants to let her fight do the talking
JAKARTA—Facing her toughest opponent yet, Jomary Torres will just let her fight do the talking against hometown bet Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol in ONE: Conquest of Heroes fight night on Saturday.
Odds are stacked against the Zamboanga native as she faces not just Gaol, but also the partisan home crowd at Jakarta Convention Center here.

“It’s my first time to fight someone who is from here. So really don’t want to lose. I’m more motivated to win,” the soft-spoken Torres said in Filipino during the open workout on Thursday.

Torres has piqued everyone’s attention with an impressive 4-0 streak that includes wins over elite fighters like Rika Ishige and Nita Dea, but she still thinks and trains like an underdog.

“I can’t sleep sometimes. I’m a bit nervous,” she admitted. “But I focused on training. A lot of people are counting me out, but I just keep telling myself that I can do this. I will show everyone what I’ve got.”
Torres, coached by ONE veteran Rene Catalan, said she put extra work on her grappling and striking knowing she’s going to be facing an Indonesian wushu champion.
“We really prepared hard so we can put on a good fight,” she said. “We focused on grappling and striking because I also have a lot of avoid from her especially she’s a wushu champion.”
Torres and Gaol cap off the preliminary round of stacked ONE: Championship card where fellow Filipino fighter Joshua Pacio tries to take home the ONE Strawweight belt in the main event.
