Wushu pool athlete, 12, falls off bed, dies

The Philippine Sports Commission said on Sunday it will extend all assistance to the family of the national pool member who died after falling off his bunk bed inside the wushu team quarters at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
PSC Chair Butch Ramirez has already ordered PSC medical staff, operations manager and wushu officials to submit their reports.
They will arrange a press conference on Monday.
“It’s a very, very sad story and we are willing to help and support the parents,” said Ramirez.
Rastafari Daraliay, 12 years old, was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after he was found unconscious.
Wushu Federation of the Philippines (WFP) secretary general Julian Camacho said the incident happened around 3 a.m. Saturday when a sleeping Daraliay fell from the upper bed of the double-decker.
Initial reports indicated Daraliay’s teammates asked him if he was all right. After the athlete said yes, they all went back to sleep. He was found unconscious in the morning.
“We have no way of knowing what happened when he fell, because it was 3 a.m. when it happened,” said Camacho. “We could have rushed him right away to the hospital and undergo CT scan or something.”
Camacho said they still took the athlete to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He said the WFP is in close communication with the deceased’s relatives.
