University of Perpetual Help is in danger of forfeiting all of its wins in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament, but head coach Frankie Lim chose to keep slient on the issued.
Lim said he wasn’t the right person to talk about the technicalities of the eligibility concerns hounding some of his players.
According to a report by Christian Jacinto of Spin.ph, Altas guards Edgar Charcos and Kim Aurin allegedly broke eligibility rules while going through their mandatory residencies in the school last year.
“We’re the wrong persons to ask,” said Lim after Perpetual’s 85-77 win over San Sebastian Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Perpetual currently owns the fourth seed in the table with a 10-5 record.
Charcos and Aurin both transferred to Perpetual from University of the East and Jose Rizal University, respectively, and had to serve a mandatory one-year residency period during the NCAA’s 93rd season.
The pair, however, was discovered to have played in the Metro Basketball Tournament during that time, a move the league doesn’t allow.
NCAA players can only play in outside tournaments if their teams are affiliated with their schools.
Lim said players need to be reminded of why they are in the NCAA so avoid situations like this.
“You have to talk to them and show them the big picture,” said Lim. “We’re not here just for the Final Four and these guys never played in the Final Four. They’re given a chance so they better embrace it.”
