ANTIPOLO — NorthPort finally ended its winless start after beating Columbian, 118-101, in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup Saturday at Ynares Center here.
The Batang Pier locals showed out with Stanley Pringle, Mo Tautuaa and Sean Anthony combining for 77 points.
“Law of averages. Sixth straight losses with three of those we almost won and I guess it was about time that the breaks of the game went to our favor,” said GlobalPort head coach Pido Jarencio.
“Pringle and Anthony are our main men and they weren’t ablo to stop Mo Tautuaa inside,” he added. “We got the first win, four to go. Let’s see what happens.”
NorthPort trailed by as much as 12 early in the third quarter before Pringle, Tautuaa and Anthony brought Batang Pier back.
Tautuaa and Anthony then, continued their strong play in the final frame, where the two teamed up for 18 points as the Batang Pier outscored the Dyip, 32-12.
Anthony hit two 3-pointers inside the final six minutes to put the game away, 110-94, with 3:30 left.
Jerramy King had a game-high 29 points that went with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals for Columbian, which dropped to 0-8.
Dyip import Akeem Wright scored just 10 points on 3-of-19 shooting from the field with six turnovers.
Northport import Rashad Woods also struggled with 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting from the field.
