Miranda makes podium twice in AFR debut

Eurasia Motorsport driver Daniel Miranda marked his debut season in the Asian Formula Renault (AFR) with back-to-back podium finishes at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) in Selangor, Malaysia, recently.

“It wasn’t an easy journey for me moving to single seaters,” said Miranda.  “But every race and every time I was on track, I got quicker and quicker.”

Miranda qualified at fourth and shot up to second on the run to the first corner. But he failed to sustain his pace and spent the next 15 laps defending his spot at third for a podium finish.

Miranda carried his momentum into Race 2 and wound up third again.

“I’m very proud of his accomplishments this year,” said driver coach and manager Roland Hermoso.  “We started the year thinking that a top eight finish would be fine, but Daniel surprised us with podiums in Shanghai and Sepang, which are some of the most difficult tracks in the calendar. With a season under his belt, I expect him to contend in every race next year.”

The AFR  race series started in 2000 using French-made Formula cars by Renault.  In prohibiting modifications to the engine and the ECU, among other parts of the car, AFR ensures identical performance for everyone.

The Championship is split into 2 classes—A for the new car and B for the previous generation.

“I would like to congratulate Daniel for giving glory to the country,” said sports patron and Cebuana Lhillier president and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier.

“As a rookie, it was a very impressive accomplishment and I expect him to do even better in his next races.  I will be here to support him.”
