NCAA: Also-rans San Sebastian, JRU triumph over respective foes

Eliminated San Sebastian scored a dominating win over Mapua, 86-64, in the battle of also-rans in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament Friday at Filoil Flying V Center.

The Golden Stags chalked up their fifth win against 12 losses and tied the Cardinals, who also have a 5-12 record, at the seventh spot of the standings.

RK Ilagan lit up for San Sebastian with 26 points and six rebounds while Michael Calisaan added 16 points and five boards.

Warren Bonifacio led the Heavy Bombers with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

In the other game, Jose Rizal University used a strong fourth quarter surge to cut down Emilio Aguinaldo College, 81-78.

The Heavy Bombers outscored the Generals 27-17 in the fourth to take just their third win of the season against 14 losses.

EAC, meanwhile, ended their season with a 4-14 record.

Jed Mendoz had a game-high 26 points, with all eight of his field goals coming from long distance, while Darius Estrella and Leo Esguerra had 17 and 10 points, respectively.

JP Maguliano had 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Generals.
