Tiu-powered Mighty-Prudential nails Xavier Alumni crown

Basketball analyst and coach Charles Tiu put on a one-man show right in the first quarter as Mighty Sports-Prudential Guarantee bagged an unprecedented fourth straight Cortina Conference Division 1 title in the Xavier School Alumni Basketball League.

Tiu outscored the entire Embassy Whisky team by scoring 27 of his team’s 30 points in the first 12 minutes as Mighty-Prudential scored an 83-72 win at Xavier School gym on Sunday.

“Everybody played well but Charles started it all,” said coach Mike Fermin of Tiu, who finished with 34 points for the Caesar Wongchuking-managed team.

Kids make up bulk of Fuerza Aquathlon entries on Oct. 28

Kids aged 5 to 13 years make up the bulk in the field of the inaugural Fuerza Aquathlon this Sunday at Philsports Complex in Pasig. Of the more than 220 entries, 90 are entered in the FuerzaKids—5-7, 8-10 and 11-13 groups. A total of 70 are entered in the Standard distance (3K run, 800m swim, 2K run) and 60 in the Lite distance (1K-400m-1K) for adults. Race kits can be claimed between 4 and 6 a.m. on race day at the Philsports oval. The Standard distance of the event backed by Adele Residences, Unilab, TYR, Brooks, Sports Resources, Drymax, Garmin, Supplement Hub, Gardenia, Gu Gels, Unison Bike Shop, Ceepo, A-Game, Milcu, Compressports and Salice kicks off 6:15 a.m.
