Angels hold on to 4th spot

05:06 AM November 13, 2018

PetroGazz sprang back from a stunning five-set defeat with a 25-11, 25-23, 25-18 victory over BanKo-Perlas late Sunday night to keep its grip on the No. 4 spot in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Angels yielded a number of attack points but pounced on the Perlas Spikers’ series of miscues to pound out the straight-set romp that improved the former’s record to 6-5 heading into the final stretch of the double-round eliminations.

“The girls went all out for the win,” said PetroGazz coach Jerry Yee, whose wards bowed to the Tacloban Fighting Warays on Saturday in Malolos, Bulacan, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13, that kept the race for the No. 4 seat among Pocari-Air Force (5-6) and Tacloban (5-7) wide open.

“In crucial matches, they tend to play impatient, so they commit mistakes and eventually the chances (to win) would slip away,” added Yee.

In contrast, the Spikers failed to sustain their three-set sweep of the frontrunning Ateneo-Motolite Lady Eagles, 6-24, 25-22, 25-16, also on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles eventually made the Final Four on Sunday.

The loss likewise dropped BanKo to third at 8-3, enabling Creamline to seize solo second anew at 8-2.
