Jiu-jitsu specialist Margarita “Meggie” Ochoa is set to see action on the world stage for the first time since the Asian Games last August.
The decorated athlete is set to compete in the 2018 Ju-Jutsu World Championships at Baltiska Hallen in Malmö, Sweden.
Ochoa, who bagged bronze in the recent Asiad in Jakarta, will be joining a 11-man delegation led by coach Ali Sulit and skippers Gian Dee and Jan Cortez.
Also in the delegation are Carlo Peña, Dean Rozas, Marvin Mariano, Adrian Guggenheim, Marc Lim, Apryl Eppinger, Mara Rafael, and Kaila Napolis.
The contest is under the Ju-Jitsu International Federation which works directly with the Olympic committees of each country.
This marks the first time a Filipino delegation is seeing action in the Worlds.
Ochoa, who has recently set up an advocacy campaign to save children from sexual volence, owns three world championships that all came in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, which is club-based.
The 28-year-old martial artist takes on Morgane Houx of France this Saturday for the right to face Suwanan Boonsorn of Thailand in the quarterfinals of women’s seniors ~49 kg. division.
Last month, Ochoa launched the “Fight to Protect” campaign to bolster her advocacy.
