Philippine Sports Commission  chair Butch Ramirez has endorsed the clamor of independent groups from taekwondo, swimming, dragonboat and table tennis for the Philippine Olympic Committee to resolve leadership woes weighing down their national sports associations.

“We really wanted a united front, because we believe that disunity is a cause of nonperformance,” said Ramirez, who met with POC president Ricky Vargas on Tuesday night.

Disgruntled stakeholders in taekwondo recently demanded transparency on the Philippine Taekwondo Association’s spending while table tennis groups have been begging for a more inclusive Philippine Table Tennis Federation.

“The PSC and the POC must interfere,” said Ramirez. “If they cannot resolve it by January or February, we will be forced to stop funding the NSAs and give the allowances directly to the athletes.”
