Kaya FC’s Elite U-13 bags silver in int’l football tourney in Phuket
MANILA, Philippines — The Kaya Futbol Club (FC) Elite Under-13 bagged silver during the recent Phuket Football Tournament in Thailand.
Kaya FC, the only Filipino team in the tourney, lost 1-0 to defending champions British International School (BIS) Cruzeiros in the finals.

Photo by Paco GuerreroThe team earlier beat the Cruzeiros in the group stage during the first two days of the meet but lost in a header goal off a corner kick in the finals.
Article continues after this advertisement“I think our team did really well against a good academy that has a tie-up with a Brazilian club. I think we are on the right track to improve football in the Philippines,” Coach Thomas Pfyl said in a statement on Thursday.
“We should not think we are behind among other countries in the region. We are as good as they are,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kaya FC’s team captain, Enzo Courbet, was awarded Most Valuable Player in this year’s tournament.
The Phuket Cup, an annual international football match, gathers high-level football players in Southeast Asia under the 13 and 15 age groups. /kga
