Edward Kelly promoted to Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt

Filipino featherweight Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, who is known for his knockout power, hopes to showcase his improved ground game this time in his future fights at ONE Championship.

Kelly, who is fighting out of renowned Team Lakay, just recently earned a belt promotion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

“Getting a belt promotion is an achievement. I like to think that this is something I’ve earned through hard work and dedication to my journey of becoming a well-rounded martial artist,” said Kelly, who has been upgraded to blue belt by decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt John Baylon.

“I feel like a more well-rounded athlete after my belt got upgraded. This adds more confidence, especially when it comes to my ground game.”

Kelly once owned the fastest knockout in ONE when he made quick work of Meas Meul last January.

His determination to work his ground game has also resulted to win medals in the Asia Pacific Jiu-Jitsu International Open in Manila, Philippines two months ago.

“My improved ground game could mean that I’ll probably start winning matches by submission,” he said. “People have to wait and see.”
