Team PH-Go For Gold athletes’ sea games prep goes full gear
National athletes under the Go For Gold program are gearing up for peak performance in time for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The sepak takraw squad, coming off a one-gold, three-bronze medal haul in the recent world championships in Thailand, are deep in training while reigning two-time men’s triathlon SEA Games champion Nikko Huelgas and the wrestlers are scheduled to compete in foreign tournaments.
Metro Manila, Subic in Olongapo and Clark in Pampanga will host 56 sports—the most in the history of the biennial Games—from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
Article continues after this advertisementAsian Games skateboarding champion Margielyn Didal will fly to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil a week from now for an Olympic qualifier while cyclists Jonel Carcueva and Rex Krog are ready for more punishing races ahead.
“I believe our athletes can perform better in the SEA Games after their impressive wins in 2018,” said Go For Gold godfather Jeremy Go.
Go For Gold will help fund the training and foreign exposure of its athletes.
