Asian Games gold medal team members Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go hope to hurdle a pair of tough groupings in the Philippine Amateur Open Golf Championships, which unfolds Thursday at Riviera’s Langer course in Silang, Cavite.
Aidric Chan, Carl Corpus and Jed Dy, meanwhile, banner the hosts’ bid against foreign rivals in the men’s side of the country’s premier championship.
The locals are seeking to end the foreign domination of the event, which drew players from Singapore, the United States, Ireland, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Guam and Korea, which swept the titles last year through now pro Kim Joo-hyung and Hwang Min-Jeong.
Article continues after this advertisementPagdanganan gears up for an early clash with Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul and Singapore’s Callista Chen, while Go is paired with The Country Club mainstay Mikha Fortuna and Inez Ng, also of Singapore.
Thitikul, the youngest player to win a pro tournament in the Ladies European Thailand Championship in 2017 at 14 years old, is out to get back at Pagdanganan after missing out a podium finish in the Indonesia Asiad last August.
