Terrence Romeo adds depth to history-seeking Beermen
MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel is entering the 2019 PBA season on two fronts.
First is for history, with the Beermen as they gun for an unprecedented five straight Philippine Cups, and second is they will defend their title with a new addition in Terrence Romeo.
The Beermen’s past four titles all revolved around the core of June Mar Fajardo, Arwind Santos, Marcio Lassiter, Alex Cabagnot, and Chris Ross and that starting five worked were the power and talent hierarchy of the team.
And Romeo’s addition to the team just put another incredible piece of talent to an already stacked lineup, and that is what the Beermen are working on as they gun for history.
“Terrence is doing well, he’s feeling his way around and he’s finding out how we do things around here,” said Ross during the PBA Media Day Thursday at Solaire Resort and Casino. “I like what I see from him and he’ll be great for us moving forward and whatever coach [Leo Austria] puts him in, he’s willing to take whatever role’s handed to him.”
Romeo is an undeniable offensive force having won the scoring title in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Lassiter, however, said that Romeo won’t be playing his usual role from when he began his PBA career and that he will be under San Miguel’s system that has reaped six of the possible 12 titles in the past four seasons.
“From what I see with Terrence he’s working hard and that’s what we want to continue to work on,” said Lassiter. “Our style of play is going to be different from his previous team and we want him to fit our system as soon as possible so we can make strides and come together.”
