Seeing similarities between Adrien Broner and Floyd Mayweather, Jerwin Ancajas confident Manny Pacquiao will beat ‘Money’ in case of rematch

MANILA, Philippines—Jerwin Ancajas is confident Manny Pacquiao can take on Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the event the two legendary boxers meet in the ring once more.
Talking to TJ Manotoc of ABS-CBN’s North America Bureau, Ancajas said Mayweather has a similar style with Adrien Broner—the man Pacquiao just beat to retain the WBA world welterweight title Sunday (Manila time) at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“I can see that Broner and Mayweather’s movements are similar and sir Manny can easily match up to that style,” said Ancajas, the IBF World super flyweight champion, in Filipino. “I think Broner got scared when he got hit.”
Broner has a similar counter-punching style with Mayweather but the two fared differently when they faced Pacquiao.
Mayweather, regarded as the best defensive fighter of his era, was able to move around the offense of Pacquiao while Broner absorbed every punch imaginable.
Pacquiao (61-7-2) was able to pin Broner (33-4-1) on the corner three separate times in the seventh round only for the brash American challenger to go for the clinch to stop further punishment.
Broner then, found himself on the receiving end of a booming left straight in the ninth round but he was able to back pedal to the ropes preventing him from hitting the canvas.
Ancajas (30-1-2) said he wondered if the referee would stop the fight in either of the seventh or ninth rounds since Broner wasn’t able to throw a punch in retaliation.
“During the seventh round I was thinking that the referee would stop the fight because Broner wasn’t throwing,” said Ancajas. “I thought that Broner finally got to think and he just ran away.”
