Altas sweep NCAA volleyball

MANILA, Philippines—Sustaining its brilliance, Perpetual Help capped a perfect season with a two-division sweep of the 87th NCAA collegiate volleyball tournament Monday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Perpetual Help’s men’s team hacked out a 25-14, 25-14, 25-23 win over San Beda for its second straight title.

The Lady Altas later made it a sweet double for the Las Piñas-based school with an emphatic 25-15, 26-24, 25-10 victory over Letran.

The win capped a perfect 14-0 season for the Lady Altas, who also gifted head coach Mike Rafael his first title in 15 years. The Lady Altas’ victory also snapped San Sebastian’s iron grip on the tournament over the past decade.

“We laud our players for the great effort, the school is very proud of their accomplishments,” said league president and policy board chair Anthony Tamayo, who is also president of Perpetual Help.
