Petron remains unbeaten; PLDT thumps Generika
There’s still no stopping Petron in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix.
The defending champion kicked off the second round with a dominating 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 triumph over Foton Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre to stretch its unbeaten run in the tournament.
It was the eighth straight victory for the Blaze Spikers, who handed the Tornadoes their seventh consecutive defeat for a 1-7 card.
Article continues after this advertisementStephanie Niemer had 11 points off attacks, five off aces and one off a block as Petron bucked the return of towering Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Foton’s new import, Spanish standout Milagros Collar, to continue its roll.
Santiago-Manabat flew home from an import’s stint in the Japanese pro league.
Kendra Dahlke unloaded 30 points and made 16 excellent digs to power PLDT Home Fibr to a hard-earned 25-21, 20-25, 29-27, 13-25, 15-12 victory over Generika-Ayala in the other match.
Article continues after this advertisement“Kendra was tremendous, especially in the third set. She truly helped us and delivered what we need from her,” said PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb, whose wards improved to 8-4. “It’s her best game so far.”
The Power Hitters also drew 18 points and 10 excellent receptions from import Grace Lazard with Aiko Urdas and Shola Alvarez combining for 21 points.
