The first of three legs of the RunRio Trilogy 2019 kicks off on April 7 at Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City where at least 6,000 participants are expected.
The “progression” series encourages runners to advance to longer-distance categories that lead up to a full marathon. It will be spread throughout a six-month period from April to September, giving runners enough time to recuperate and train.
The first leg will feature the 21K, 10K and 5K distances.
“The RunRio Trilogy is for runners who want to push their limits and be the best that they can be,” said coach Rio de la Cruz, creator of the series.
The Afroman Distance follows on June 16 with the addition of the 32K division while the final leg on Sept. 22, the Philippine Marathon, will have a 42K race.
Winners of the different age-group categories will get entry tickets to the Chicago Marathon slated Oct. 13.
The Trilogy will also provide reusable hydration bottles to help reduce plastic pollution.
Until April 5, participants can register at Olympic Village branches in Trinoma, Market! Market!, Glorietta 2 and Alabang Town Center.
