MANILA, Philippines—Jacob Liao’s brace sparked Ateneo’s 4-1 rout of previously undefeated Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 81 men’s football tournament Thursday at FEU-Diliman.
Kim Minsu found the back of the net for the Tamaraws in the 11th minute but that was the only time the Blue Eagles found themselves behind.
Liao headed in Iñigo Herrera’s corner to equalize in the 28th minute then Rupert Baña gave Ateneo the 2-1 lead when he whizzed his sixth goal of the season 10 minutes later.
It was in the 73rd minute that Liao got his double before Jarvey Gayoso gave Ateneo its fourth goal in the 77th minute.
The Tamaraws are still atop the table with 15 points but they are now just two points clear of the second-running Blue Eagles.
Earlier, John Abraham’s late winner lifted University of the Philippines 2-1 over Adamson University while National University and University of the East settled for a 0-0 draw.
Jesus Cadayong was the first to get on the score sheet when he put Adamson up 1-0 in the 49th minute.
It took the Fighting Maroons 32 minutes to get level when Dane Saavedra found King Miyagi for the equalizing header.
UP now has 10 points to level NU at the fifth spot in the table while Falcons are tied with the Red Warriors in the seventh spot with eight points apiece.
