MANILA, Philippines—Venues of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in New Clark City dodged a bullet after the sites were left undamaged despite the magnitude 6.1 earthquake that shook Luzon Monday.
The construction of the new passenger terminal building at Clark International Airport was also free from destruction.
According to a press release from Bases Conversion and Development Authority, “there were also no reported casualties and major incidents in both project sites.”
The Philippines will host the SEA Games for the fourth time. The last time the country staged biennial regional spectacle was in 2005.
It was also in 2005 when Filipino athletes won the most medals with 290, 112 of which were gold.
The construction of the sports facilities is expected to be done by September.
The 2019 SEA Games unwraps November 30 with the opening ceremony to be held at Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
