Petron nails seventh straight Finals berth

/ 05:20 AM April 26, 2019

Unstoppable as Petron seems to be, it has not yet reached its peak form, according to one of its stars.

After watching her team string up its 17th straight win, losing just three sets along the way, Petron import Stephanie Niemer feels the Blaze Spikers will get even better now that they have reached their seventh straight final.

“I don’t think we even hit our peak yet,” said Niemer, who dropped 35 points in Thursday’s 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 win over Cignal at Filoil Flying V Centre, sweeping the best-of-three semifinals of the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix.

“I mean we didn’t all jell today. We needed to battle some things but I think we got enough practice to prepare for our next game. I still think we still have room to improve and that’s pretty awesome,” she added.

Petron will face the winner in the other semifinal series. F2 Logistics was holding a 1-0 lead over PLDT and could wrap it up with a win in a game that was being played at press time.

Whatever happens in the other series, the best-of-three finals will begin on Tuesday.

The Blaze Spikers were jolted by the HD Spikers’ strong start in Game 2.

“I’m so impressed with Cignal but I’m more impressed with the way we responded,” said Niemer, the 6-foot-1 spiker from Kentucky. “We kept cool, I mean they’re are digging some shots that normally score for us.”
