UST’s Babylove Barbon, Gen Eslapor rule BVR Dumaguete

MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas’ Babylove Barbon and Gen Eslapor came back from a one-set down to take down Perlas’ Bea Tan and Dij Rodriguez, 17-21, 21-14, 15-12, to claim the women’s title in the BVR On Tour: Dumaguete Open Saturday at Riza Boulevard sand court.

The Golden Tigresses, however, didn’t go climb the throne in the easiest of ways after they squandered three match points before Barbon the title-clinching drop to complete a 5-0 campaign with Eslapor.

In the men’s division, Ranran Abdilla and Jessie Lopez won their triumphed over fellow Air Force athletes Mike Abria and Jade Becaldo 21-13. 21-14.

This was Barbon’s first BVR on Tour leg title since pairing up with Cherry Rondina in their title win in the Manila Open in August of 2018.

The BVR on Tour would resume on Tuesday with the fourth leg will be held at Capital Beachfront in Lingayen, Pangasinan as part of the annual Pistay Dayat celebration.

Barbon and Eslapor trudged to the finals after a commanding 21-16, 21-13 win over University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos alumni Erjane Magdalo and Alexa Polidario.

Abdilla and Lopez, meanwhile, took down UST’s Rancel Vargas and Efraem Dimaculangan, 21-11, 21-17, in the semifinals to get to the title round.
