Refreshed SBP, Gilas Pilipinas logos unveiled
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) unveiled a refreshed version of its logo and a new one for the Philippines’ basketball programs Wednesday night in a short press conference at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
“We felt that after 10 years, we wanted a refresh not only cosmetically, but also structurally. We needed to strengthen a lot of areas,” said SBP president Al Panilio.

“We restructured the SBP in the direction that we’ve set the federation to embark on,” he said.
Gilas Pilipinas’ branding will now be implemented across all of the “six pillars” of the program according to Panlilio.
Within the revamp are the official appointments of coach Yeng Guiao as program director the men’s program and Patrick Aquino for the women’s program. Tab Baldwin was named program director for the youth teams with Sandy Arespacochaga as the head coach. Meanwhile, coach Jong Uichico and Atty. Rebo Saguisag were identified as heads of the SBP Academy’s Commissions for Coaches and Tournaments, and Referees and Table Officials, respectively.
“We officially announced a (reorganization) in SBP early this year but it was a process we went through identifying what key components of the body we wanted to strengthen, where we could have more improvements because there’s always a room to improve,” he said.
Panlilio said the 3×3 squad, which is set to compete in FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup in Changsha, China, on May 28, will be the first to don the refreshed logos of the federation.
