PBA D-League: CEU nears no. 1 after beatdown of Wangs
MANILA, Philippines—Centro Escolar University closed in on the top seed after a 116-72 rout of Wangs Basketball in the 2019 PBA D-League at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Tyron Chan unleashed 23 of his game-high 32 points in the first half to set the tone for the Scorpions while also collecting 10 rebounds, five rebounds and four steals.
Maodo Malick Diouf was also dominant for CEU with 20 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and five blocks.
“We got derailed against NU and we didn’t take care of things in the second half,” said CEU coach Derrick Pumaren, whose continues to pace the Foundation Group with a 7-1 record. “This time we made sure to take care of things.”
The Scorpions pulled away early, building a 38-17 advantage at the end of the first quarter and kept their foot on the gas pedal up to the final buzzer. They never trailed and led by as much as 47.
The Couriers reeled to their fifth straight setback to end the tournament with a lowly 3-6 mark.
