PSC reiterates support for Hidilyn’s Olympic bid

Weightlifting heroine Hidilyn Diaz sat down with Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chair Butch Ramirez on Thursday and discussed issues that prompted the Olympic silver medalist to air grievances on social media.

Both agreed that the quest for the gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is of paramount concern.

“We have pledged our support before, and we will continue to do so because we are focused on that Olympic gold as much as Hidilyn,” said Ramirez, who will also function as the country’s chef de mission in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The all-out support for Diaz is given. In fact, Ramirez said the PSC board has approved two more requests for assistance to fund Hidilyn’s training.

“The government will continue to support you. Let’s journey together toward that gold,” Ramirez told Diaz.

There were mixed reactions after Diaz’s social media posts where she sought for more financial support for her Olympic golden bid went viral.

“I promise to never quit,” said Diaz, who was accompanied by AFP Special Services Chief Col. Taharudin Ampatuan during the meeting with Ramirez.

PSC Commissioner Charles Maxey was also present when they received Diaz at the PSC’s Philsports Complex offices.

Both Ramirez and Diaz will sit down again on Friday to continue ironing out several details related to her training and preparation requirements.
