To raise support for PH athletes, Go for Gold attempts to break Guinness World Record

MANILA, Philippines—The 2019 Southeast Asian Games is set to start in five months, and Go for Gold is taking its part in raising support for the Philippine national athletes.
Go for Gold, the sports corporate social responsibility project of Powerball Marketing and Logistics, together with Viva Entertainment are set to hold an awareness-raising event for the SEA Games.
The two entities will jointly hold an event that will attempt to break Guinness World Record for most people dribbling basketballs simultaneously on July 21 at Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.
Go for Gold patron Jeremy Go said the Guinness attempt is their way of helping the Philippines kick start the SEA Games festivities with the Games to start on Nov. 30 and end on Dec. 11.
“Since the SEA Games is here, we want to do something to kick start the program and I guess cheer for our Filipino athletes,” said Go whose CSR sponsors national athletes such as 2017 SEA Games gold medalists Margielyn Didal and Nikko Huelgas.
“Sports is something our company is into, this year we wanted to showcase our support to a broader Filipino audience,” added Go.
The previous record for most people dribbling basketballs simultaneously was 7,556 set on July 22, 2010 in Gaza Strip, Palestine organized by United Nations Relief and Works Agency.
Jay Montelibano, Viva Vice President of Integrated Sales, said they’re expecting at least 10,000 participants and a maximum of 12,000.
Participants will be given an RFID band for identification, a basketball, and a Guinness-recognized jersey.
“Actually we have 12,000 balls, and we’re encouraging the participants to register online because you’ll be registered in the database,” said Montelibano.
Go said they’ve partnered with at least 200 high school basketball teams and that delegates from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police are expected to join the event.

The only requirement for those willing to join the event is that they must be at least 16-years-old and can dribble a basketball.
