MANILA, Philippines—Pacifictown-Army took its retribution in the bronze medal series and took down BanKo, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-23, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference Saturday at Filoil Flying V Center.
The Lady Troopers’ four-set win puts them at a better position for the third place finish, if the finals between PetroGazz and Creamline ends today, after the Perlas Spikers took Game 1 in five sets, 25-27, 10-25, 27-25, 26-24, 16-14.
Creamline leads the three-game gold medal series at 1-0 but a win for the Angels in Game 2 would mean a tiebreaker not just in the finals but also between Army and the Perlas Spikers.
Royse Tubino led the Lady Troopers with 23 points while foreign players Olena Lymareva-Flink and Jenelle Jordan added 21 and 17 points, respectively.
“Of course I’m happy with the win but I wasn’t expecting this level of play from my team because they’re playing so well and the players exceeded my expectations in terms of their competitiveness,” said Pacifictown-Army head coach Kung Fu Reyes in Filipino.
“Yes, we have imports but you can see the locals playing so well, the decision-making of the setter is at par with anyone, my libero can receive those balls despite the strength of the opposing players’ serves.”
Sutadta Chuewulim led the Perlas Spikers with 14 points while Kathy Bersola added 13.
