MANILA, Philippines— Filipino-American swimmer Remedy Alexis Rule erased the national record in the women’s 100-meter butterfly in the 18th FINA World Swimming Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.

The two-time All-American from University of Texas timed 1:00.42 to wipe out the standard set by Jasmine Alkhaldi (1:01.00) in the 2015 Singapore Southeast Asian Games.

The 23-year-old Rule, who finished 30th place in the event, is looking to beat the Olympic standard clocking of 59.66 seconds to qualify in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
