Kaya Iloilo nailed its second straight win at the expense of Mendiola, 5-0, even as Philippine Air Force finally bagged maximum points in the Philippines Football League over the weekend.
Stallion Laguna, however, failed to match Kaya’s result as it was held to a goalless draw by Green Archers United at Biñan Football Stadium.
Bracing for a dogfight with Ceres-Negros on Saturday, Kaya took care of business with Jordan Mintah firing a hattrick at PFF Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Connor Tacagni struck in the first half to set the tone for the Kaya rout that also saw substitute Jayson Panhay find the back of the net against a Mendiola team that was unable to ride the momentum of its stunning 5-2 upset of Green Archers last Wednesday.
The win allowed Kaya to pull level with Ceres on points, but the Busmen still lead the table owing to a superior goal difference.
Air Force ended its search for a first win with a 3-2 nipping of Global Cebu last Saturday with Darl Pedroso, Mark Ferrer and Rodolf Bebanco all on target.
The Airmen looked headed for a trouble-free win after scoring twice in the first half, but Marvin Briceño and Jerry Barbaso grabbed late goals to set the stage for a nervy finish.
In the end, it was Bebanco’s 90th minute strike that spelled the difference for Air Force, which started the season with just one draw and eight losses.
